Stunt Performer Spotlight: Jordan Arredondo

Featured Interview With Stunt Performer: Jordan Arredondo

Tell about yourself and your background! *

I am a life long martial artist.  Fifty(50) years ago my grandmother founded a family ran and operated martial arts school that put in motion a generational inheritance which created an entire family of black belts. I began my training when I was two (2) years old, competing at the age of four (4) and instructing when I was twelve (12) years old. Martial arts is truly my identity, and I am looking forward to continuing the legacy with my own children. "In honor there is life."

What inspired you to become a stunt performer?

The thing that motivated me the most to become a stunt performer was my unrelenting childhood dream of becoming a "superhero". When I was three (3) years old I was introduced to Sam Raimi's adaptation of Spider-Man. Spiderman instantly became my favorite hero of all time.  And all I could think of was how badly I wanted to become that symbol of inspiration to others.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a stunt behind it?

My greatest skill as a stunt performer, is my ability to "mimic" most physical abilities that I see. I believe I gained this skill because I was deaf as a child. As a young martial arts student not being able to hear and participate fully with the world around me, I learned to "watch" the world around me. Although I couldn't hear the instruction, so I became hyper sensitive visually to the point that I began learning techniques down to the most minute detail.

What is the best part about being a stunt performer?

The best part about being a stunt performer is being part of a group of extremely talented performers who bring their favorite characters to life. The excitement of combining my love for martial arts and superheroes into a practical application that's entertaining for others motivates me to become even better in my craft. In the same way that film has impacted my life, I hope that my journey can be an inspiration to others.

Tell your all-time favorite stunt story!

My favorite stunt story would be the time I was hired for my first marvel film "Loki". It was my first time rigging on a set. In this stunt I got to use fire gel and was suspended in the air and "electrocuted". One of the coolest stunts I ever got to do so far.

What advice would you give other stunt performers?

My advice is no matter what adversity you have to face in life, you must never give up, even when all odds are stacked against you. In the wise words of Avatar's Uncle Iroh, "In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself, that is the true meaning of inner strength."
