Stunt Performer Spotlight: Joon Poore

Featured Interview With Stunt Performer: Joon Poore

Tell about yourself and your background! *

My name is Joon Poore, i am a danish/korean stunt performer. I started learning stunt and stage fight from some of the more experienced danish stuntpeople back in 2006. From there i went to the international stunt school(Seattle) in 2008. It was such a  good time, i miss it a lot!  After the stunt school i came home to Denmark and began to work in the danish film industry. ¨I have been working in film, tv, musicals, opera, theater, commercials, music videos, live action shows. Right now I am the owner of JPSTUNTS and I have the most awesome crew! We work together on a lot of projects, we are like a small family. This journey has taken me all across Europe and i am so grateful for my fortune.

What inspired you to become a stunt performer?

When I was a little kid, I saw Jackie Chan in a movie and was instantly in love with the action. I started doing martial arts from a young age because i wanted to be like him.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a stunt behind it?

I love to do action design and choreography. I love to put fights together so the action flows, looks amazing and is smooth, yet brutal. To have one idea in the mind, to actually see it on screen, really makes my heart grow. When we made the Star Wars fan film: Shrouded destiny(still in post-production) it was so satisfying to watch how the action we choreographed became a part of the film.

What is the best part about being a stunt performer?

Making art, watching how imagination becomes alive in cinema, having a good time on set with some good colleagues and enjoying the thrill of movie fighting.

Tell your all-time favorite stunt story!

Actually i have 2: 1. I had to do a fall from a small lift down unto a car for a commercial. I was nervous as heck because they also had small explosives in the car, so when i land i detonate the explosives and the windows will blow out.  I was hanging about 2-3 meter above the car, and when i got the go signal, i pushed of and let me fall backwards. Now here is the funny thing, the lift gave away, and instead of being still giving me an angel to fall down to the car roof, it actually just moved with my poush and i fell straight down instead. My ASS hit the windshield and i crumbled backwards into the car down at the gear stick. Beneath the windshield there was explosives planted, so when they detonated my butt and thighs were on it. I remember lying folded together backward in the car when i heard the "CUT!", my stunt co. rushed in and pulled me up. The moment i got up my legs where just gushing with blood, nothing deep, just a lot of small cuts from the windshield explosives. fun times!2. I had to do a fight scene atop a small dam/waterfall. Me and the actor had to jump from the edge of the dam out "down the waterfall". We were rigged to a nearby bridge, and it was very awesome to try! The thing that got me was, that after we did the jump, we swung back into the waterfall and got absolutely wet and soaked! it was January so it was very cold. That was an amazing experience.

What advice would you give other stunt performers?

Don't compare yourself with others. Find your own way. Stay true to your goal, and if you are successful give something back to the community.
