Stunt Performer Spotlight: Jennifer Haight

Featured Interview With Stunt Performer: Jennifer Haight

Tell about yourself and your background! *

I played the Lead Actress "Twin Sister" in KA by Cirque Du Soleil from 2003-2021. I have performed more than 7,500 live shows in Las Vegas and now have officially retired from Cirque to follow my dream into tv/movie industry. Due to the depth of my characters involvement in the KA storyline it was a requirement to have a strong theatrical acting background in which I have obtained over the 18 years of working for the company. My specialty before joining Cirque was Chinese Martial Arts focusing on Traditional Eagle Claw Kung Fu under Grand Master Lily Lau and Wushu under Sifu Hao Zhi Hua. I have won over 100 medals and trophies throughout my competitive years and was a 2×USA Wushu Team Member.  I have a passion to perform and my cup is always half empty seeking more knowledge in hopes to better improve my performance and self being.

What inspired you to become a stunt performer?

As a martial artist, I grew up watching a lot of kung fu movies and was always inspired by Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, and Donnie Yen and wanted to be like them when I was older.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a stunt behind it?

My greatest skill as a stunt performer would be that I'm very adaptable to any situation and have an easy going personality.

What is the best part about being a stunt performer?

The best part about being a stunt performer would be that you have the gift of combining acting with a stunt movement. For example if you are doing a fight choreography, you are not really fighting all out and punching your partner 100%, you are performing a punch and your partner is reacting it to, making it look "real" which is telling a story through the stunt performers movements. It's the best of both worlds!

Tell your all-time favorite stunt story!

I do not currently have an all time favorite stunt story to share because my story has just only begun but I am interested to see what my growth will be a year from now and what stories I'll be able to share by that time

What advice would you give other stunt performers?

I'm still new to the community and learning as I go but if I had to give any advice to another stunt performer I would say to never stop learning. You can always learn something out of any situation if you have a open mind, staying positive, and keep believing in yourself!

Anything else you'd like to tell the community about?

I'm excited and looking forward to hopefully work and learn from all the experience stunt performers that have come before me!  I'm optimistic looking forward to the future. After all, one of my favorite quotes is " Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift and that is why they call it present" -Master Oogway Kung Fu Panda
