Featured Interview With Stunt Performer: Ivan Forlani

Tell about yourself and your background! *

I was born on the 17th of February in Trieste, Italy. Since when I was young I always did sport.. Roller-skating, kayak, basketball, football, ski, swimming.. but what change my life was definitely Martial Arts. I am a black belt in Chinese Kickboxing-Wushu and I also did Muay Thai and BJJ, currently I still training Kickboxing and BJJ. Since I was a young teenager I start to work, any kind of Jobs,  from Fisherman on the boat to parkour trainer, chef of a chicken to security. I have always been and hard worker, for me and for my family. Those experiences create the Ivan that is today too, discipline and hard work. A lot of different jobs till the moment that I started to work as stuntman.

What inspired you to become a stunt performer?

I think that i always knew inside that I would have become a stunt i just didn't understand it before.  While I was practicing kung fu and kicking i always had like a talent to envision new movements and I always thought to see what I was doing from a different point of view that wasn't mine but the one that would have looked at me. Definitely the movie The Matrix had a massive impact on my journey.. The moves, the fight, the camera work.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a stunt behind it?

I think that my greatest skill is to be able to adapt myself to the situations. To learn fast thanks to the sports that i have practiced and gave me what is called a good muscle memory. Of course then there is the skill that I have learned with years of practice and training but I think the most important is the capability of quick adapting and to be able to change. I am a professional fighter (with and without weapons), stunt driver and precision driver and fire stunts are strongest skills

What is the best part about being a stunt performer?

The best part it to be able to fly around the world,  work in incredible locations and meet thousands of great stuntmen and stuntwomen from all over the world. To work with people that share the same passion and to learn new languages, nationalities and cultures.

What advice would you give other stunt performers?

As advice to other stunt performers i would say.. Be honest with what you can and can't doing, be nice on the set and even outside of the movie set cause it cost nothing and gives you more, help your stunts brothers and sisters cause even if at the end of the day we all work for the same goal, it is also true that the one who as been chosen to do a stunt needs all your support and attention,  we all have families, friends and buddies that cares if we come back at home loud and safe.
