Stunt Performer Spotlight: Amy Greene

Featured Interview With Stunt Performer, Amy Greene.

Amy Greene is an experienced stunt performer, fight choreographer, producer, and stunt coordinator, based in both Los Angeles and Boston.

Her work can be seen most recently in the murder mystery KNIVES OUT, in an on-screen stunt role opposite Zac Efron in EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL, AND VILE, and in high speed ratchet drags, fights, and water work while doubling the lead in THE NUN.  A former boxer, she currently trains MMA, in addition to regular gymnastics, stage combat, and high falls.  Amy is also a nationally certified medic (NREMT), as safety is her ultimate priority in stunt work.

What inspired you to become a stunt person?

Watching a Rocky marathon as a kid inspired me to box, around the same time I'd fallen in love with storytelling and movies. The first time I got to see stunt teams in action on set on the films UNSTOPPABLE and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS solidified my dream of becoming a stunt woman.  A lifetime of athletic endeavors, a background in performance, consistent training, and years as a film industry professional led me to my ultimate goal.  (That, and Stunt Coordinator Kurt Bryant giving me a shot!)

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a story behind it?

My background as a fighter, dancer, and gymnast translates well to fight scenes and fight choreography (though I love wire work, ratchets, and high falls!)  Combat sports are a passion of mine, and something I've dedicated a large portion of my time to.  I love both learning and teaching fight choreography, telling stories through action, conflict, and confrontation.

What is the best part about being a stunt performer?

Collaborating on set with a team of professionals I trust, admire, and respect is one of my favorite parts of working in stunts. The stunt people I work with make this dream even better than imagined.

What advice would you give other stunt people?

Be kind, humble, safe, and hard working. In addition to the other common pre-requisites for stunt work of athletic ability, training, and fortitude, being gracious and kind truly matters... and nothing's more important than safety!
