Stunt Performer Spotlight: Aaron Cogburn

Featured Interview With Stunt Performer: Aaron Cogburn

Tell about yourself and your background! *

Well, I grew up in a small town in Washington state. As a kid I always enjoyed building jumps and seeing how far my friends and I could launch our bikes. As well as who would get hurt the least in the process haha. As I got older my need for adrenaline grew. And I began driving in demolition derby and mud drag racing. When I was about 19 I was offered a chance to crew for a monster truck team. I started out in the pits wrenching and keeping the fleet of monster trucks rolling. I soon began driving race trucks and my need for the thrill and adrenaline took off. After a couple years I started to want more. That's when the stunts came into play. The danger. The thrill. I needed it. I started small. Mostly car roll overs. Jumps. Things of that sort. I moved into fire stunts and body burns in front of live crowds. Today I do a mixture of everything from monster trucks. Car stunts. And body burns. Mostly at live events like monster truck shows. And other Motorsports events. Who knows you've probably seen me preform.

What inspired you to become a stunt performer?

Mostly my need for adrenaline. As for who inspired me. I'd have to say the legendary Evil Knievel himself.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a stunt behind it?

My greatest skill as a stunt performer would definitely be automotive stunts. Rollovers. Long jumps. I feel I stay calm under pressure and it's allowed me to become skilled in driving.

What is the best part about being a stunt performer?

The best part of being a stunt performer would definitely be the fans. The reactions on their face. Seeing the kids look at me like I'm superman. It makes every bit of the danger worth it. It's something that they will always remember. And that means something to me.

Tell your all-time favorite stunt story!

My favorite stunt story would have to be one time in Idaho I did a stunt called the wall of destruction. I launched over 4 ft ramps into a stack of 6 cars. Every time this stunt was preformed the jump car was disabled. But this time I managed to land on the crush cars and continue to drive right off. Me being a showman I had to give the fans something to remember. So I drove my little jump car through a tough truck course that was set up on the track and somehow managed to do better than most of the trucks. The crowd was having a blast cheering that this little car was doing so good in the mud and over the jumps. It was just an awesome night.

What advice would you give other stunt performers?

NEVER QUIT, never stop pushing yourself. And never stop believing in yourself. Stay humble and always make time for fans.
