Stunt Performer Spotlight: Tom Ringberg

Tom Ringberg is a stunt and fight performer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Tom has been working as a stunt performer and coordinator in Minneapolis for the last 8 years. He primarily works as a fighter for unarmed (material arts), weapons fighting, and as a fire arms specialist. Tom first started out in theatre where he learned about stage combat and learning the difference from stage fighting and fighting for film. From there, Tom joined the Tumble Monster Stunt Team in Minnesota where he continued to train and work in stunts. What inspired you to become a stunt person? My biggest aspiration for becoming a stunt performer was my passion to be a storyteller of violence. My philosophy is that every punch, kick, stab, ect... has a specific story to tell and it is all about finding the right technique that helps convey the story that is being told. What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a story behind it? One skill I find to be very valuable as a stunt performer especially for fighting is 'third eye awareness’ or the ability to know where the camera is at all times and how to save a take if choreograph, blocking, or spacing gets a little off so then the take can be saved and maybe used. What advice would you give other stunt people? I feel like I am still young in the stunt game but... to folks starting out in the stunt game: always enter with a glass empty mentality. Every set your on gives you the opportunity to learn something new and no matter how long you have been in the game there is always a chance to learn something new.
