Stunt Performer Spotlight: Kelly Roisin

Tell about yourself, Kelly!

I grew up in the south in a culturally blended family. Daughter of a rock musician and an USAF MSgt. I preformed at Disney World during my highschool years, while also participating in NJROTC, Chorus, Drama, Science Club and various activities.

I played soccer in middle school, while also swimming, running and all around being a tomboy. I enjoy painting, baking, cooking, gardening and reading in my spare time.

My baking skills earned me the nickname of "Cookie Girl" amongst the stunt community.

What inspired you to become a stunt person?

I became a stunt performer on the urging of friends that are in the business. There are only a handful of plus sized stuntwomen. As such, my size is considered a speciality.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a story behind it?

I have done a fair amount of fire training and fire work. I really enjoy doing fire work. I find it very calming and relaxing.

But my most used speciality is slapstick comedy stunts. Pratfalls, slipping, running into things, falling over objects, all the physical humor that you see in comedy shows.

That's the bread and butter of the work I do. I am mostly known for being plus sized.

What is the best part about being a stunt performer? No day is the same. Even if we are rehearsing or filming the same scene, there will be changes and we have to adjust to it on the fly.

I love that I get hired to stunt double for plus sized actresses and I make them comfortable having someone their size as their double.

What advice would you give other stunt people?

The best skill set is to have a good attitude. You could have all the talent in the world. But if no one can tolerate your presence, you aren't getting hired.

Be early to set. Be mindful.

Be respectful. Be helpful.

Be present.

Take advice.

Don't spend all your money on frillious things. You never know when the next job will be.

Anything else you would like to tell the community about?

I think people's individual and group work speaks for itself.
